Scorer Stuart Mason
The development team travelled to Offerton to take on a team who have won 3 from 3 this season.
Rovers had a strong squad of 16 for the game and wanted to make it 2 wins on the bounce after last weeks game against Platt Lane.
Rovers started slowly and struggled after making 6 changes from last weeks game. This showed as the defence struggled to get to grips with the Offerton strikers.
A ball over the top beat the offside trap and the Offerton striker made it 1-0 after 20 minutes. Shortly after after a break down the right, a cross came in and was turned in to his own net by Anto Wainman.
Rovers then started to get back into the game and forced a number of corners before Bills was fouled in the box. Captain Stu Mason stepped up and made it 2-1.
Rovers still looked shaky at the back and conceded again devotee the break. Another own goal as this time Luis turned deflected a cross past Lewis is goal.
Several changes at half time seemed to bring more balance to the team and much of the 2nd half saw Rovers on top. Some great saves from the Offerton keeper and close efforts from Masterman, Bills and Jack. It felt if a Rovers got the second goal the game could have gone all the way to the wire. As Rovers pressed as time ran out they were caught on the break. Lewis was making his debut in goals and made some excellent saves to keep the game at 3-1.
After a Rovers corner Offerton broke and made it 4-1 followed by a 5th in the last couple of minutes. Which felt a little unfair after a much better second half performance.
The team needs to improve next week against Edgeley Reserves. Several forced changes each week as players miss games is making it difficult for the team to gel.
Some elements of the second half performance show we aren’t a million miles away from putting a run together.
