Rovers 2 Brownley Albion 3 29/09/18

29/09/2018 Match Report Saturday Team

Scorers Josh and Rob

Rovers were playing their third of nine scheduled away games up to the 1st of December against unbeaten 2nd in the league Brownley Albion.

The first 20 minutes Rovers had the edge playing the better football and trying to seek out the wide players. The only shots on goal though came from 25 yards which never troubled the Albion keeper. Rovers then paid the ultimate price for a defensive mix up when Rob tried to header back to Alex only for his header to fall short allowing the Albion striker to sneak and loft it over Alex for 1 nil.

Rovers were soon level when a corner was cleared only for the ball to be crossed back in and land at the feet of Josh who from near the penalty spot smashed it into the bottom corner for 1-1. The rest of the half was even between both teams with no clear-cut chances being sought out. Half time 1-1.

Unfortunately, Rovers couldn’t carry on the good football of the first half as fitness took its toll. Albion stepped up their game and created plenty of chances with Alex coming to the rescue many times. Rovers created very little going forward for all the effort shown. An injury to Anthony Vasquez and Cal playing with the flu meant changes had to be made which saw the younger members of the squad being substituted in and to their credit gave a good account of themselves. With 15 minutes left Alex was eventually beaten when a midfield mix up left Albion to easily slip in there striker who buried the ball into the corner from 12 yards for 2-1. Rovers upped the pressure to try and salvage a point and on 85 minutes they thought they had. A corner was whipped in and cleared by Albion only for Rob Nolan to fire in from close range, the ball appeared to cross the line / hit the defenders hand. The referee gave the goal for 2-2. Rovers thought they had a well deserved point however with 2 minutes left a long cross field ball found the striker unmarked who fired home the winner for 3-2 Albion.

Next up is another away game against old Lancashire and Cheshire foes Radclyffe A.F.C in the County Cup on Saturday the 6th of October at Failsworth School. This one being a 2pm kick off.
