Rovers 3 Platt Lane FC 2 16/09/18

16/09/2018 Match Report Development Team Friendly

Scorers Dom Turner, Jack Booth, Stu Mason

The development team were handed a walk over in the county cup after AFC Swinton were unable to field a team. At short notice a friendly was arranged against Platt Lane FC who we had faced 2 seasons ago in the Accountants league. That season it was 1 win each in the league games so this always was going to be a close game.

Rovers had a big squad with some new players coming through to start on the bench on a wet and breezy day at Hough End.

The game started competitively with both sides trying to play football with some decent passing play from both sides. Rovers took the lead after a good spell of pressure, after a great corner from Stu Mason was headed home by Dom Turner.

Rovers were looking fairly comfortable but were soon conceded after a Platt Lane forward intercepted a short pass and broke free to equalise. A second soon followed and Rovers found themselves 2-1 down, which was starting to feel a bit like like deja vu. The last few weeks have seen good performances punished by unforced errors at the back and some wasteful finishing going forward. Rovers needed to get back in the game quickly and put the errors behind them.

This week was different and Rovers responded. Man of the match Dom Turner breaking free down the right to pick out Andy Weaver who’s first shot was blocked before he found Jack Booth who equalised for Rovers from close range.

Second half and Rovers had the wind in their favour and continued to have the better of the game, although Platt Lane did look dangerous on the break.

A decent attack from Rovers forced a corner which Stu Mason took. His in swinging corner beating everyone and finding the net to put Rovers 3-2 ahead.

Rovers continued to make chances. Dom hitting the bar from a tight angle, and Eric hit the inside of the post from close range. Luckily Rovers weren’t made to pay and held out for the 3-2 win.

Onto next week which sees us back in league action against Offerton. Some good performances from the subs who made debuts. Things are looking positive from a squad who have suffered the last 6 months from lack of consistent numbers. Hopefully we can take the positives from this game forward into next week.
