Scorers were Andy Weaver, Jacob & Eric
This week the development team faced a tough county cup game against a team who won the double in the MASFL last season.
Rovers again had several players missing and 3 no shows on the morning of the game.
This lead to a number of players playing out of position, and a relatively inexperienced starting 11. With 8 changes from last weeks game in the league.
Rather than go into the full details of the Stretford goals. It's worth sharing that this was a really encouraging performance from the Development team.
In the first 35 minutes Rovers matched Stretford and played some excellent football. Andy Weaver drilled a free kick into the bottom corner to pull Rovers level at 1-1 and Jacob Barber scored shortly after Stretford retook the lead to make the score a deserved 2-2 from close range after about half an hour.
Rovers went toe to toe with Stretford in the 1st half and the score was 2-2 shortly before half time. Rovers also had 3-4 good chances during this period to go ahead. Jacob Barber denied at point blank range by the keeper and Andy Weaver hit the bar from 25 yard with the keeper beaten. Eric and Jack Booth were causing the Stretford defence problems with their movement.
In the second half Liam Wilson rounded the keeper with the score at 4-2 only to be denied on the line by the defender, and shortly after Eric made the score 4-3 with a well taken finish after beating the offside trap.
Stretfords experience showed as the game went on and they added to their lead as Rovers tired.
Overall a positive display with silly mistakes being reduced. On this occasion though (unlike previous games this season) Rovers were simply beaten by a better side. There was certainly no faulting anyones efforts though.
Hopefully we can take this into next week when we return to league action against Stockport Vikings.
